Fan Energy Index

Presentation Summary:    

This presentation introduces the concept, definition, and calculation of the new Fan Energy Index (FEI). The speaker will give an overview of lab‐based fan curves and general fan performance. Actual installed performance will be addressed. The speaker will discuss issues and challenges of an energy savings first mindset in the built environment. Finally, the speaker will summarize the pros and cons of FEI and review some of the tradeoffs.

Speaker's Bio:

With over 20 years’ experience in the HVAC industry, Andy’s career has covered a wide range of development and leadership roles. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Buffalo, Andy went on to earn a Master’s of Science in mechanical engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Andy is an expert in refrigerant based air conditioning, as well as hydronic heating and cooling. He also has a strong background in heat transfer and fluid dynamics. A transplant from western New York, Andy relocated to the Carolinas about 10 years ago and is currently serving as the Branch Manager for Hahn-Mason Air System’s Raleigh office.
