Christmas is Coming!

By tradition, and as long as I have been a member of the southern Piedmont chapter of ASHRAE (30

years), the December meeting has been dedicated to our annual Christmas party.

We designate the event as History night, and recognition of those who have contributed to the ASHRAE

Research Promotion. We also invite past presidents of the chapter and recognize them. (Ben – you are

now in the club!) Finally, the night culminates with our annual auction to raise money for the Research

Promotion campaign.

It is a great night where the members come together and just enjoy each other’s company. There is no

technical speaker at this meeting, only fellowship, recognition, and an opportunity to pick up some

Christmas gifts while helping society reach its research goals.

Keep an eye out for the forthcoming meeting notices and make plans to attend!

Here are a few pictures from years past…

ASHRAE Society President 2023-2024: Ginger Scoggins

Ginger Scoggins, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, is ASHRAE’s President for the 2023-24 term. Scoggins previously served on the ASHRAE Board of Directors as president-elect, treasurer, vice president and director and regional chair.

Her theme for the 2023-24 ASHRAE Society Year is “Challenge Accepted: Tackling the Climate Crisis.”

“We are living in a climate emergency. Our desire to be more comfortable has brought us to a place where we need to make uncomfortable decisions. We can accept the challenge of our day regarding the impact of our buildings on the climate crises by equipping our members with the knowledge they need to design and renovate buildings to address the greenhouse gas emissions of our industry.”

Scoggins’ theme highlights the urgency of addressing the climate crisis, examines measures to reduce human impact on the natural environment and offers strategies for making the built environment more resilient and sustainable.
